BRONCHOSCOPIC PROGRAM: THERAPEUTIC

Laser Therapy

The pulmonary specialists and thoracic surgeons of the Allegheny Center for Lung and Thoracic Disease have extensive experience in the endobronchial management of benign and malignant airway obstructions with Nd:YAG laser and Carbon Dioxide laser approaches. These physicians were the first in the tri-state region of Pittsburgh to utilize these approaches a decade ago. These laser therapies are often combined with endobronchial treatment modalities (endobronchial stents, radiation brachytherapy and photodynamic laser therapy) to restore patency of the patient's airway by ablating the endobronchial tumor. Treatment is conducted in an outpatient setting through the pumonary bronchoscopy laboratory or at the operating room in the specialized minimally invasive therapy suite.
