Lung Cancer Program

Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG)

In addition to the unique clinical and basic science efforts of the Lung Cancer Program of the Allegheny Cancer Center, the cancer treatment physicians are affliated as a primary investigating group within the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG). ECOG is one of the largest cancer study groups in the United States, promoting the cooperative investigation of 25 university medical centers with more than 200 affiliated hospitals, 26 Community Clinical Oncology Programs (CCOP institutions) and 27 consultant institutions. The membership includes more than 4,000 participating scientists and health-care professionals, including physicians, nurses, statisticians, data managers and pharmacists. Lung cancer physicians at the Allegheny Cancer Center have actively participated in ECOG for several years, and they have provided leadership in the development of new areas of lung cancer investigation within this cooperative group.
